We are looking into the logistics of holding a CoD4 LAN in 2008. What it really comes down to is:

1) The physical technicalities of running the LAN. Can our hardware handle it? Are there enough PCs? Can we run the right quality LAN servers? Is CoD4 broadcast friendly?

2) What is the REAL expected turnout? 8 Teams, 12, 16? People can always speculate that there would be TONs of teams coming, but from past experience, it doesn't usually work out.

Right now we are trying to let the competitive CoD4 community continue to mature and grow - as well as get X3O ready to host this kind of tournament.

Make sure you check back around April - we will probably have made an announcement of our plans by then. Also - if you feel CoD4 is going to be a great success at X3O, then get your team and friends on the site and posting that they want a tournament.

I will also be active in promoting cod4 to the x30 lan this summer. The call of duty community is one of the largest gaming communities. You would have a great turnout if this game was in the rotation guaranteed.

Concerning your second question; it really depends on the prize pool and what percentage of entrance fees would be going toward the center. The CoD4 NA community is generally based around the NorthEastern USA so assuming there is a decent prizepot and the computers can handle CoD4, you would easily see 26-32 teams.

Hi, I'm gnome from Nexus Gaming (CEVO-P). A few of the other posts where also members from CEVO-P teams. CoD4 has a much stronger community than any other previous games. Right now we have a LAN this friday with a prize pot that is honestly only low because the LAN center took a hefty amount. Aka around 5k. We have 30 teams going. All prepayed, and at one point we had 32 going but a little miscommunication caused a couple teams to drop out. If there wasn't a cap on the tourney there probably would have been more than 32 because at the time when there was a cap there was about 6-7 teams still wanting to go. You would have to imagine a later spring or even summer LAN would have an AMAZING turnout mainly because of the fact that school is out, etc. 30 teams for a LAN in PA really shows how much stronger this community is in than the other previous cod games. This game is a merging of communities, and in all honesty you still see teams coming over. As for the specs, I would have to see them. People played on crap computers in a previous detroit LAN which still had a decent showing and only had a decent showing because it was right towards the beginning of the game. I would definitely say give CoD4 a chance. It has a very bright future and CoD4 would only make you look better. I can promise you an amazing turnout. So in the end, if you were to have a good prize pot and a legit way of setting up the tourney would would have about 30+ teams just like the NERV lan this friday-sunday.

In all honesty CoD4 would be one of the best choices for any LAN. The game is very spectator friendly, people enjoy watching it. Also there would be no doubt that some of the shoutcasting companies would attend to help it out even more. Currently there is a lan this weekend in PA at a LAN center called NERV. 30 teams are pre-paid and attending. Keep in mind this is in the beginning of March when things at school are heating up. Meaning that 30 teams is an amazing turn out. I can gaurantee atleast 28 teams would show up to a lan in maryland. And in all honesty there would probably be MUCH more attending. Look into CoD4 and I promise you, you will not regret it. Computer wise, I'll play either way. I enjoy going to LAN's and I have heard nothing but good things about x3o.

The way NERV had it set up was they made sure they had enough teams pre-payed with travel plans set up before they guaranteed the Tournament to happen, so there would be no real financial risk involved.

Post up the computer specs and if they can run cod4, you'll easily get 28+ teams for a summer event. Like it was said, it's spectator friendly and growing faster then any of its predecessors.
