GotFrag recently sat down with a few of the most prominent professional Call of Duty players in all of North America. One of them was our own Call of Duty 4/now Call of Duty 5 player, Robert "griM_" Koster. In this question and answer session with the pros, the community gets to discover not only one pro perspective, but five regarding their views on Call of Duty 5, how the beta went and how they think CoD5 will be.
Below is a snippet from Rob's answers:
The bolt rifles really were the meat and potatoes so to speak of CoD 1 and 2. How much different do you think competition will be in this version with the bolts so far only really being effective as sniper rifles? Do you think things will be different once the kar98 is usable?
Robert "griM_" Koster - I think that a lot of people with good aim will ultimately end up with the bolt. The game will be a lot different and better in my opinion. From looking at the maps in pics and spectator some seem bigger making it more of a bolt/sniper friendly map. Being a sniper/bolter I enjoy this change and hope that the maps are good for competition.
After playing some Search and Destroy on all of the maps, it seems as if the only suitable map for competition so far is Castle. What are your thoughts on the beta maps, and do you think map selection will become a major issue for the competitive success of the game?
Robert "griM_" Koster - I strongly believe that the maps dictate success of any game. The game play could be amazing but if the maps are heavily lopsided and just not well designed it makes for failure. Castle is by far the best of the three maps released in the beta. My team has been scriming it the most and it seems to be evenly sided and well designed. We also tried roundhouse a few times and our opinions were mixed. I think if the bolts would kill when hitting someone we would have liked the map better. All in all I think we have 1 great SD map, and 1 so-so out of 3 so I'm fairly optimistic we could have 5 solid maps for competition!
