Tonight X3O says goodbye to a new face and hello to a veteran. Welcome back Dan "mehLer" Mehler to Team X3O!
We are announcing an interesting change today. Many of you have noticed that our former player Thomas “thoMz” Garcia has not been practicing with us lately. Since the Electronic Sports League Continental Finals Americas in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (U.S.), we have been negotiating his release to Gravitas Gaming. Many of us first heard of Gravitas when they acquired our previous team that finished 1st at the World Cyber Games USA Finals this year. Since then we have rebuilt a new X3O Counter-Strike 1.6 team which included thoMz, that beat them at the ESL Continental Finals Americas. Gravitas has been looking for that X-Factor, and for them it was thoMz.
With thoMz leaving, we began searching for a replacement that had international LAN experience, dedication, and the desire to be on a championship team. To make room for thoMz, Gravitas had to release Dan “mehLer” Mehler from their lineup. Dan played for X3O for a year prior to leaving for Gravitas, and we know firsthand that he has what it takes to be the best. Today we are officially announcing the return of mehLer to Team X3O.
Franchise owner Nick Fitz talked about Dan’s return,
"I personally am very excited about having the opportunity to work with Dan again. He is a phenomenal player and I have seen firsthand how well he plays under pressure. I think that he will make a great addition to our team and will help us reach our goals for 2009. This also is the first time in over a year that we have an all east coast based Counter-Strike team. This will give us more opportunities to get involved in our local communities as well as attend local LAN events.”
At the time of his release, Gravitas management was unable to provide reasoning for mehLer's release other than to say that the players on the team wanted to take a new direction going into next year. We asked mehLer how he felt about playing for X3O again and he said,
“I had a great time representing the x3o org my first time around so it was an obvious choice to come back. Although it will be hard to break old habits after playing with the same team for so long, the new x3o lineup looks very promising and I can’t wait to start practice and playing :].”
